Senior Commercial Manager

Overview
The Senior Commercial Manager will lead the commercial function across assigned business units, driving tendering, contract negotiation, risk management and commercial governance to maximise margin and support sustainable growth. This role will work closely with Project Directors, Operations, Legal and Finance to ensure accurate pricing, robust contract terms and effective commercial controls from bid stage through to contract governance & close-out.
Key Responsibilities
Develop, review and approve commercial submissions, tender strategies and pricing models to ensure competitive and compliant bids.
Lead contract negotiations with clients, subcontractors and suppliers to secure favourable terms, manage risk and protect company interests.
Manage commercial aspects of projects including variations, claims, extensions of time and liquidated damages to preserve margin and minimise disputes.
Provide commercial guidance and mentoring to estimators, project teams and site managers to ensure consistent application of commercial policy and best practice.
Prepare and present commercial reports, tender adjudications and post-tender reviews to senior management, highlighting opportunities and risks.
Oversee subcontract procurement, review supply chain commercial proposals and manage supplier performance and commercial relationships.
Work with Legal and Finance to develop and maintain standard contract templates, commercial procedures and governance controls.
Support business development by providing commercial input to proposals, client meetings and negotiations.
Take ownership of continuous improvement initiatives to streamline commercial processes and enhance tender accuracy and turnaround times.
Undertake any other duties consistent with the role and business requirements.
Manage project efficiencies/KPIs/SLA's, adherence to and avoidance of commercial penalties
Requirements
Proven experience in a senior commercial role within construction, In-Home services & infrastructure projects, related sectors.
Degree or professional qualification in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, Construction Management or equivalent experience.
Comprehensive knowledge of contract forms, procurement routes and commercial management practices.
Strong commercial acumen with excellent analytical, numeric and IT skills.
Experience of preparing and presenting commercial reports, tender adjudication and post-contract reviews.
Proficient in contract negotiation, claims management and risk mitigation.
Confident communicator with strong interpersonal, influencing and stakeholder management skills.
Ability to work under pressure, prioritise competing demands and meet deadlines.
Self-motivated, organised and able to work both independently and as part of a team.
Full, clean driving licence would be desirable depending on business requirements.
